Tadpole diary, week 7

We have legs!

Tiny back legs just beginning to grow.

This one's legs are a little more developed already.

Still smilin' ....and poopin'....but he has legs, too. See the toes?

Mantis Monday for 3-27-06

Two of the same ceramic mantis: one unfinished and the other finished.

A long time ago, I found the unfinished ceramic mantis in a hobby store. I have always intended to paint it, but somehow I haven't yet. My parents found the painted one a few years later at a craft fair, and got it for me. Someone took the trouble to add antennas on the finished one. That's a nice touch.

Mantis Monday for 3-20-06

This was a greeting card that a friend sent me about 15 years ago.

A closer look.

A few plastic bugs

These are a few of the other items I got in trade for the bird stamps. I also got a few non-insect things. And 2 more plastic mantids, but I'll save them for future Mantis Mondays.

A nice green beetle on a leaf.

A wasp with its prey.

A dung beetle, complete with a ball of dung. (plastic, of course!)

These last two look like they are mounted on bottle caps. No clue what was in the bottle, if there was one.

Mantis Monday for 3-13-06

Yes, this post is late. No, you don't want to hear my excuses.

This little plastic orchid mantis was the object of my desire last month when I saw it on a Japanese website. (That part of the story is here if you missed it.)

The World Of Butterflies

Here's another blog I found tonight:

The World Of Butterflies Nice photos. Not labeled as to what kind, though.

Ant Blogs!

Not just another bug person, an ant person. And not just one ant blog, several ant blogs! Ant Visions has links to other ant-family specific blogs. With lots of info and close up photos of...ants!
I think they are all Australian species.

Mantis Monday for 3-06-06

A transforming mantis toy from when my boys were little. The antennas are broken.

This is what it transforms into.

Artsy insect links

Most people who know me and read Bug Safari know that I am an artist of sorts, and I participate in a weekly online art challenge called Illustration Friday. Well, this week's topic is INSECT, and I am having an extra-fun time looking at how so many other artists have chosen to put insects in their art! And so, I have decided to fill this post with links to the insect-themed artworks that tickle my fancy. I plan on updating it frequently over this next week, so check back often!

Here's my own entry!
This one has an amazing fly!
This is a beautiful mantid.
This person has created a whole line of insect-themed childrens garden stuff. Must see!
