Yesterday, we took a little drive to my parents to show off the new car. As usual, I eventually took a little walk around the yard, and, also as usual, their house is disappointingly lacking in much interesting insect life. Michael did notice some wasp activity in a corner under the eaves, and looked up to find this little nest. It's proximity to the front door, and her general disgust for bugs in general prompted Mom to insist that Dad "get rid of it." I at least tried to make her realize that having Dad spray up over his head on a breezy day would have the spray going back in his face, and he should at least wait until the wind was calm. But she was adamant, and I'm sure by now the deed has been done.
Wasp colony in what was probably its last hours.
